How do I test my keyboard online?
Open this page and press each key on your real keyboard. Working keys light up purple while held and turn green once released. That's the whole test, and it's free.
What is a dead key, and how do I spot one?
A dead key never registers. Press it in the tester and watch the on-screen board: if the key stays gray after pressing, the switch or trace underneath didn't send any signal.
What does the amber (stuck) state mean?
Amber means the browser saw a key-down press but never saw a key-up release: a physically stuck switch, a key held down, or the window lost focus mid-press. Release the key (or press and release again).
My laptop keyboard is not working. Is it software or hardware?
Test first: if specific keys stay gray, it's likely hardware or debris. If the entire keyboard is unresponsive, it's usually a driver or OS issue. See our laptop troubleshooting guide for the step-by-step fix.
Why don't Fn or brightness/volume keys light up?
Most laptops handle Fn, screen brightness, and volume in firmware before the browser sees them. That is normal hardware/OS design, not a broken keyboard.
