Keyboard Latency Test Online

Tap a key and measure event-to-frame delay: average response, jitter, and consistency. A quick browser check for system input delay and typing responsiveness.

Average latency — ms
Jitter (max-min) — ms
Samples 0/20
Status Tap any key ~20 times Each tap is timed from the keydown event to the next screen frame. Space is easiest to tap fast.

How it works: each tap is measured from the keydown event to the next animation frame, the event-to-frame delay this browser session actually delivers. Range (min/max) is the jitter.

This measures system processing latency, not full input latency. The display path (monitor response, GPU) and your network are not included. Browser estimate, not lab gear.

What the latency test tells you

What it measures

Input latency here is timed from the keydown event to the browser's next screen animation frame. It captures OS event handling and browser pipeline delay (not display panel response or network ping).

What it reveals

A typical setup shows 10–25 ms of normal system overhead. A high or erratic average (over 50 ms) indicates heavy background load, OS throttling, or USB polling bottlenecks.

Who should test

Gamers who feel input lag and want to know if it's the keyboard or the display. It's also useful when comparing wired and wireless boards, or before and after a setup change.

How to run a latency check

  1. Start the testClick "Start tapping", then place one finger on Space (or any key).
  2. Tap the same key ~20 timesTap at a steady pace. Each tap is timed from the keydown event to the next animation frame.
  3. Read average and jitterThe average is your event-to-frame latency; jitter (max-min) shows how consistent it is. Retest a few times for a stable reading.

Latency FAQ

From 10-30 ms of normal system latency to input lag that matters in games.

Why does my keyboard test show 10-30 ms latency?

That's normal. Browsers report events on their own cadence and the OS schedules input alongside other work. 10-30 ms of system latency is typical; over 50 ms can start to matter in competitive games.

Is keyboard latency the same as network ping?

No. Ping is your connection to a game server. Keyboard latency is local: key press to screen. Both add up for online play, but they're separate measurements.

Does a wireless keyboard have more latency?

Modern 2.4 GHz wireless (like Logitech Lightspeed) can match wired at ~1 ms. Bluetooth usually has higher and more variable latency, which shows up as bigger jitter here.

How can I lower input delay?

Use a wired or 2.4 GHz connection, close background apps, and check your display's game mode. Also confirm the polling rate. A 125 Hz board adds up to 8 ms per report before anything else.
